Denmark (Aarhus) will host X-35 World Championship in 2011
Among four proposed venues, the ISAF recognized X-35 class has chosen to run the 2011 world championship on the Bay of Aarhus in Denmark. This will be the first time the X-35 class will be running a world championship in Denmark. Organizers will be Sailing Aarhus, who also hosted the 2008 ISAF Youth World Championship.
X-35 Class president is impressed
Sailing Aarhus is a non-profit organisation formed by the five major sailing clubs in Aarhus, and the X-35 class president, Torsten Bastiansen (GER) is very pleased with the choice of organisers and venue: “Aarhus was chosen, because Sailing Aarhus has proved what it takes to run international events of ISAF status” says Torsten, and continues: “we were impressed by the job they did last year when running the ISAF Youth World Championship. Furthermore, Aarhus’ central location in Northern Europe is perfect and easy to reach for teams from the whole region”.
Alderman Jacob Bundsgaard is thrilled
”It’s fantastic to see that the waters around Aarhus continue to attract international sailing events” says Mr. Jacob Bundsgaard, alderman of Culture and Sports in Aarhus ”this is partly due to the fact that we have some of the best racing waters in the world and that the city of Aarhus, together with Sailing Aarhus have a targeted strategy of attracting sailing events”.
Part of Sailing Aarhus strategy
”The X-35 class is one of the latest ISAF recognized keelboat classes, it received its ISAF status in 2006 and is growing rapidly” says Sailing Aarhus Director Thomas Capitani ”the event fits well into our strategy of attracting international sailing events to Aarhus and we believe that hosting a world championship together with the X-35 class in Denmark, will strength the keel boat class sailing in the region. We are looking forward to be hosting the X-35 in Denmark for the first time ever”.
General information:
The ISAF recognized X-35 class is a 35’ keelboat produced by X-Yachts in Denmark. It received its ISAF status and two years later, in 2008, a staggering number of 54 entries competed at the World Championship in Italy. Boats arrived by sea or truck from across Italy as well as from France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Holland, Germany, Great Britain, Estonia and Russia. Almost 25% of all X-35s built were present for the 2nd World Championship – an indication that this is an extremely active one-design class in rapidly growth.
The 2011 World Championship will be held in the beginning of September and the race village will be set at Marselisborg Marina, the same place that hosted the World Match Racing Tour 2009 Danish Open.
In 2010 the X-35 World Championship will be held in Scarlino, which is in Tuscany (ITA)
